Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior official said the incident rendered him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
